Summer is here and that means many people are traveling to their favorite vacation destinations. Whether you’re heading to the ocean or the mountains, staying healthy and fit while traveling isn’t always easy. You’re used to your typical routine of eating clean and working out and when you’re on-the-go you’re faced with a lot fast food places and sometimes no gym. So, how can you stay fit and healthy while traveling?
It’s easy to fall into the groove of eating fast food, after all it’s convenient and often delicious. But fast food can be your nemesis when you’ve been eating clean for months to prepare for your summer vacation to the beach. Pack high protein snacks like peanuts, tuna, peanut butter and crackers, hard boiled eggs or apples with fruit dip. These high protein snacks are easy to throw in a cooler and go, to help you avoid eating out.
Drinking plenty of water will not only keep you hydrated, but also full. Flying, in particular, can dehydrate you due to lack of humidity. Make sure to drink a glass of water every hour if you’re flying to keep you hydrated and be sure stay away from caffeine or alcoholic beverages.
Grab a Day Pass
While you’re traveling it’s hard to stick to your workout. Even though you don’t have your local gym to visit every day, you can visit any gym while traveling. Most gyms offer a 7-day free pass or a small fee for a one-day pass. You don’t have to forego your workout routine completely. If you can’t make it to a gym at your destination you can always pack small workout equipment like a resistance band or jump rope and get a quick workout in your hotel room.
Take a Hike
Where you’re in a big city or the mountains, get out and get active. Instead of taking public transportation or a taxi in a large city, walk to your destinations. This will ensure you burn more calories and even get to experience the scenery on your way to your favorite lunch spot.
